Flatness at the centre of Liberty's hair and on the eagle's feathers is often a striking characteristic rather than wear, and grading services account for it. Judge circulation wear on the cheek, the hair above the ear, and the eagle's shoulder, and compare against images of the same date rather than against a sharply struck coin from another year.
