Morgan Dollar Dates & Mintmarks
Every date and mintmark combination in the series, 1878 through 1904 and 1921, with the mintage the U.S. Mint reported for each. Figures were cross-checked against three published sources on 2026-07-31; where those sources disagree, the individual page says so.
No prices, price guides, or population counts appear anywhere in this catalog. Coin Curator does not hold licensed data for any of those, so it publishes none. How we work.

Rank 1 is the lowest business-strike mintage in the series. Tiers are assigned from reported mintage alone: under 750,000 struck is a key date, under 2,500,000 a semi-key. The same thresholds apply to every series on this site, so tiers are comparable between them. That is a production measure, not a market judgement, and not a statement about how many survive.

Common questions
How many Morgan dollar date and mintmark combinations are there?
There are 96 across the original run: 1878 through 1904, plus 1921. Philadelphia and San Francisco struck the coin in 28 years each, New Orleans in 26 (it did not begin until 1879), Carson City in 13, and Denver in 1921 only. There is no 1878-O and no 1904-CC.
Which Morgan dollar has the lowest mintage?
The 1893-S, at 100,000 business strikes, is the lowest of any circulating issue and is the date most collectors treat as the series key. The 1895 Philadelphia issue is a special case: Mint records report 12,000 business strikes, but none has ever been authenticated, so it is collected as a proof-only issue with 880 struck.
Does a low mintage mean a Morgan dollar is rare today?
Not reliably. Millions of Morgan dollars were melted under the Pittman Act of 1918 without the dates being recorded, and several issues sat in Treasury vaults for decades. The 1903-O was considered the rarest New Orleans date until a 1962 vault release changed its standing permanently, while the 1901-P and 1892-S are far harder in mint state than their multi-million mintages suggest.
Does Coin Curator publish Morgan dollar values?
No. This catalog carries U.S. Mint production figures, historical context, and documented varieties. It does not publish prices, valuations, price guides, or population and census counts, because Coin Curator does not hold licensed data for any of those. Pages link to the grading services' own certification lookups and to marketplace searches so you can check current evidence yourself.
Where do these mintage figures come from?
They are U.S. Mint production records, cross-checked on 2026-07-31 against three independently published tables. Four issues (1880-CC, 1885-CC, 1890-O and 1898-O) are reported differently by those sources; on each of those pages the disagreement is stated rather than silently resolved.
